چکیده

We consider a diffuse interface model for tumor growth recently proposed in [3]. In this new approach sharp interfaces are replaced by narrow transition layers arising due to adhesive forces among the cell species. Hence, a continuum thermodynamically consistent model is introduced. The resulting PDE system couples four different types of equations: a Cahn-Hilliard type equation for the tumor cells (which include proliferating and dead cells), a Darcy law for the tissue velocity field, whose divergence may be different from 0 and depend on the other variables, a transport equation for the proliferating (viable) tumor cells, and a quasi-static reaction diffusion equation for the nutrient concentration. We establish existence of weak solutions for the PDE system coupled with suitable initial and boundary conditions. In particular, the proliferation function at the boundary is supposed to be nonnegative on the set where the velocity u satisfies u · ν > 0, where ν is the outer normal to the boundary of the domain. We also study a singular limit as the diffuse interface coefficient tends to zero.

Three-Dimensional Diffuse-Interface Simulation of Multispecies Tumor Growth–I: Numerical Method

We present a tumor-level diffuse interface model of cancer growth. This work expands the capability to simulate non-symmetric, multispecies tumor growth at the continuum level in three spatial dimensions, enabling more detailed description of disease progression and treatment. Specifically, we use a Cahn-Hilliard-type equation with added advection and reaction terms to describe tumor growth and...

Three-dimensional multispecies nonlinear tumor growth--I Model and numerical method.

This is the first paper in a two-part series in which we develop, analyze, and simulate a diffuse interface continuum model of multispecies tumor growth and tumor-induced angiogenesis in two and three dimensions. Three-dimensional simulations of nonlinear tumor growth and neovascularization using this diffuse interface model were recently presented in Frieboes et al. [2007. Computer simulation ...

Two Dimensional Mathematical Model of Tumor Angiogenesis: Coupling of Avascular Growth and Vascularization

Introduction As a tumor grows, the demand for oxygen and nutrients increases and it grows further if acquires the ability to induce angiogenesis. In this study, we aimed to present a two-dimensional continuous mathematical model for avascular tumor growth, coupled with a discrete model of angiogenesis. Materials and Methods In the avascular growth model, tumor is considered as a single mass, wh...

Mathematical model and its fast numerical method for the tumor growth.

In this paper, we reformulate the diffuse interface model of the tumor growth (S.M. Wise et al., Three-dimensional multispecies nonlinear tumor growth-I: model and numerical method, J. Theor. In the new proposed model, we use the conservative second-order Allen--Cahn equation with a space--time dependent Lagrange multiplier instead of using the fourth-order Cahn--Hil...

Extra-Articular Diffuse Giant Cell Tumor of the Tendon Sheath: A Report of 2 Cases

Two rare cases of extra-articular diffuse variant giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath are presented, at the elbow of a 68-year-old female and the foot of a 56-year-old male. Both patients presented with a palpable masses and marginal excision was performed; histological sections confirmed the diagnosis of extra-articular giant cell tumor. No adjuvant therapy was administered. At the last fo...
